BioMarin Manufacturing Ireland’s Dublin operation is responsible for the supply chain, logistics and high level commercial decision making. This includes price, distribution and third party contracts for the launch of enzyme replacement drug VIMIZIM which has, just this week, this week been approved by the European Commission.
The company will now begin recruiting for senior accounting, finance, customer service and marketing positions. Today the firm said it expects to have total employment of 200 people in Ireland by the end of 2017 – both in Dublin and in its Cork manufacturing facility.
Commenting on the announcement, Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Richard Bruton said there had been “major successes” in the last two years in the pharmaceutical sector as regards job creation and this is a further boost.
“Ireland is an ideal business environment, which lets us focus on what we do best-targeting diseases like Morquio A syndrome that lack effective drug therapies and affect relatively few people, many of whom are children.
“The expansion of BioMarin’s Global Commercial Operation in Dublin is an essential part of our strategy in providing therapies that are the first or best of their kind.”
