The CIPD Western Region Committee, in conjunction with the event sponsors Covidien Galway, were to host an event on ‘Organisational Effectiveness – An Integrated Global Model’ on Thursday 28 March at Covidien, Michael Collins Road, Mervue, Galway.
Guest speaker for the event was Robert O’Brien, EMEA HR Director for Organisation Effectiveness, Covidien.
Covidien is a leading global healthcare products company with annual revenues of $12 billion. Mr O’ Brien works within a Global HR Model to effect change and support business, collaborating closely with business, plant and country HR leaders. He is responsible for HR management of change initiatives, such as restructuring, integrations and consultation, across the region in 38 countries with 7,500 employees.
Previously, Mr O’Brien was HR Manager in the Covidien, Tullamore plant and has significant HR and general management experience in the pharma, telecomms and distribution sectors. In 2010, he was a committee member of the CIPD Midlands branch and holds qualifications in HR, IR, Business and Finance.
Joe Robbins is co-founder of CareerWise Recruitment. A graduate of the University of Limerick (Degree in Business Studies, 1985), Joe worked in the UK for five years where he specialised in materials management, production management and plant management for a number of companies.
He returned to Ireland in 1992 to become Operations Manager for a Cork-based start-up, FMC Automotive Division which was subsequently taken over by Snap-on Equipment. Joe managed the business re-location of this company to Shannon in 1997 before setting up CareerWise Recruitment in 1999.
He is a committee member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) Mid-West region, and a former Director and Vice President of the Shannon Chamber of Commerce. Joe is former Chairperson of the Sixmilebridge Camogie Club and current Chairperson of the Clare County Camogie Board.
