Clearstream Technology completes new extension to existing facility with the Potential to create 200 new jobs
Enniscorthy – November 5th 2014 –Minister for Jobs, Enterprise & Innovation Richard Bruton TD www.enterprise.gov.ie today announced that ClearStream Technologies Limited, the Enniscorthy-based medical devices manufacturer, has completed a 50,000 sq. ft. extension to its existing facility.
Since its acquisition in 2011 by CR Bard Inc., the US-based medical device manufacturer, ClearStream has added 160 jobs to its workforce, bringing its current headcount to 410 people, with approximately 100 of these jobs being added in the last four months. The completed expansion which is expected to support growth through 2019, will give the company the potential to accommodate up to an additional 200 new positions, based upon need. The expanded facility represents a significant addition to the Medical Technologies cluster in Ireland and adds to the growing Life Sciences cluster in the South East.
This expansion by ClearStream, supported by the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation through IDA Ireland, allows the company to add additional capacity in Enniscorthy to build on its current product portfolio and potentially add new products. The expansion also positions ClearStream to be one of Co. Wexford’s biggest employers and enhances its position as a significant contributor to the local economy in the South East.
Richard Bruton TD, Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, who has twice met CR Bard on recent IDA investment missions to the USA to discuss expansion projects, said “This is a huge boost for Wexford and the South East. In our discussions with CR Bard it has been clear that this is a really ambitious company with big plans for its operations in Enniscorthy and today’s announcement that it will potentially create up to 200 extra jobs here is great news. Medical devices is a key sector of strength for Ireland, and one which we have targeted as part of our Action Plan for Jobs due to the great potential that exists here. I wish CR Bard every success with this operation and look forward to working with them in the future”.
“This is an exciting time for us. We are extremely pleased to be opening this new extension to our facility. This investment represents a significant commitment by the company to the facility in Enniscorthy and to our workforce who have been key to our success to date. It positions us to leverage potential growth opportunities in the future which is very positive for us and for the South East region.”Pauline Oakes, Director of Operations, Clearstream Technologies Limited,
IDA Ireland www.idaireland.com CEO Martin Shanahan said “Medical Devices is a key strategic part of Foreign Direct Investment into Ireland. The sector is the most regionally spread throughout the country. This expansion by ClearStream is excellent news, enhancing the country’s reputation as a global hub for the sector.
Strengthening the Life Sciences cluster in the South East in this way gives the region added impetus for future growth. The company has been a substantial employer in the region and the potential to add further jobs is very welcome. I wish them every success.”
Mythen Construction, the award winning Wexford-based construction company and a top 20 national main contractor, built the new expansion, with 85 temporary construction jobs created in the seven-month long specialist build.
