Toronto, Canada – October 30, 2013 – Kobo, a global leader in eReading, today announced the opening of its new European Software Development Centre in Dublin. With the support of IDA Ireland, Ireland’s government agency with responsibility for attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), Kobo has created more than 30 positions now filled with skilled software developers. Working with teams in Toronto, Canada, the Dublin office has become critically important in supporting the development and implementation of Kobo’s international eReading ecosystem for booksellers and Readers around the world.
“Ireland is home to some of the brightest minds in the tech sector, and we’re excited to announce the opening of the Kobo office in Dublin,” saidMichael Serbinis, CEO, Kobo. “Our team in Dublin helps to deliver the best eReading experiences and localized offerings for our bookselling partners like Eason, which we announced today.”
“eReading and eReaders are changing the way we interact with the written word – it’s a transformative and innovative industry and Kobo is at the cutting edge. It makes sense for Kobo to choose Dublin as its base for European operations because we are the tech capital of Europe. But there’s also a nice tie-in from a cultural perspective because Dublin is a UNESCO city of literature. And the partnership with a traditional company like Eason’s is great to see and we can be certain that this will lead to a number of spin-off jobs being created as a result,” said Eoghan Murphy TD.
Commenting on today’s announcement, Barry O’Leary, CEO of IDA Ireland said, “We see Kobo being used on planes, trains and at home. It’s great to have such a thriving brand name put roots down in Ireland. Kobo’s Dublin team will provide the software expertise and support to their customers and colleagues across the world. Kobo in Dublin will enhance Ireland’s reputation as the digital capital of Europe.”email@example.com
