Aerie Pharmaceuticals has entered into a lease agreement with IDA Ireland to establish a new manufacturing plant in the recently constructed 2,650m2 IDA Advanced Technology Building in Athlone, Ireland creating 50 new jobs.
The project, which is supported by IDA Ireland, will produce commercial supplies for the company’s product candidates Rhopress and Roclatan. Aerie is currently seeking approval for the products.
Aerie is a North Carolina-headquartered clinical-stage pharmaceutical company focused on the discovery, development and commercialisation of therapies for the treatment of patients with glaucoma and other eye diseases.
Aerie has commenced its design plan for the facility and expects to begin internal construction shortly. The company will initially create up to 50 new jobs in sterile manufacturing, quality, engineering and other support capabilities.

Mike Morrissey has extensive knowledge of production, quality and engineering, having worked for Dell, Creative Labs and Tyco Safety Products /Sensormatic.
His expansive operational experience is grounded with training as a Six Sigma Black Belt.
As a lead auditor, he is very familiar with compliance and quality standards and has project managed the implementation of the environmental standard ISO14001. He has successfully utilised his project management and team leading skills in implementing numerous cost-saving and process improvement projects.
