Cork Chamber in association with Network Cork hosted an Executive Lunch on Friday 17th April in The Kingsley Hotel, focusing on Women in Leadership and featuring Dee Forbes, President & Managing Director of Discovery Networks Northern Europe as the guest speaker.
The event was to celebrate the high calibre of women in leadership positions in the Cork region and was attended by Audrey McSweeney (CareerWise) together with some of the most dynamic and influential business people in the region.
Dee, originally from Cork, is President and Managing Director of Discovery Networks Northern Europe and is based in London. During the lunch, Dee shared with the guests her own story on how she rose to the top of her profession.
Headquartered in London, Dee manages all commercial and channel activities for Discovery Networks Northern Europe’s business covering 27 TV brands in 18 markets and territories. Discovery’s footprint reaches over 276 million cumulative TV households across Northern Europe each month including the UK, Ireland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland and the Netherlands.
Dee was previously at Turner Broadcasting, part of Time Warner, and is currently Chair of the Commercial Broadcasters Association in the UK and is a Non-Executive Director of the Irish Times newspaper group. She is also on the board of ChildLine and Munster Rugby Club.
Ken Murphy graduated from University College Cork in 1987 with an Electrical Engineering degree before moving to the US as a Network Design Engineer with BellSouth Corporation. His return to Ireland in 1989 heralded a career which concentrated on the multinational sector, and involved working with companies such as Apple Computer, Cabletron, FMC Automotive, Moog, General Semiconductor and Technicolor.
Ken is a specialist in quality management, purchasing, logistics and supply chain management. He has significant expertise and experience in managing the changing demands of the global media, electronics and automotive sectors at operational and project management levels.
Ken leads CareerWise Recruitment’s Cork operations. He has served on local and national committees of IPICS (The Supply Chain Management Institute), CIPD, the Cork Electronics Industry Association (CEIA), and has completed a three-year term as Chair of the UCC Alumni Board.
Ken has recently been elected as a Director of the Cork Chamber for a four year term to help promote business and drive policy objectives for the Cork Region
