3 Signs You Have A Terrible CV!

It’s not easy to get the perfect job, and it can be very frustrating if you feel that you’re applying for several positions but not getting interviews. Getting to the interview stage requires commitment and positivity, and a great CV! If you consistently get overlooked for interview, the chances are that your CV is not doing its job for you.

Fix your CV

A good CV is worth a great deal, and it’s very important to take advice if you’re not getting the results you want. There are many ways to improve and brush up your CV, but if you’re making the following mistakes, you’re still likely to fall at this hurdle. Take the time to run through our quick checklist and find out if you’re making basic errors that are costing you an interview:

Is Your CV Letting You Down?

If your CV is weak in any of the following areas, you would benefit from reworking it to make a better impression:

  1. No clarity. A recruiter or employer reading your CV wants to know what makes you unique, and why you would be a great fit for this job. If you haven’t made it very clear what your area of expertise is, it’s likely that you won’t make the cut for the position your want.

  1. Lack of relevance. A CV must be written to a job specification, highlighting exact qualities and skills you have that make the role ideal for you. Many people use generic descriptors to describe themselves and their experience, but this is not helpful to your readers, who would prefer you to give specific examples of the ways in which your experience and attitude suits the role, and to show how you have successfully achieved your goals in similar roles.

  1. Poor presentation. Making it through to interview is dependent upon giving your reader a good impression of you, and many will disregard or think poorly of a candidate who offers a CV that is badly written or presented. Spelling and grammar errors, or inconsistent use of punctuation, can give an image of someone who doesn’t really care or put in the effort to get it right – and these will not be traits that a potential employer is looking for!

Asking a friend to proofread your CV or seeking a professional opinion on rewriting it can help to improve your chances of securing an interview and bring more successful outcomes in your search for your ideal role.
