“Can you believe it’s Pancake Tuesday tomorrow? But how could this be relevant in an interview?

Tomorrow is the day we all go flipping crazy for pancakes! Honestly here in CareerWise, it feels like it just crêped up on us..!!

Pancake Tuesday, or Shrove Tuesday, to give it its proper name, always falls before Ash Wednesday which marks the start of Lent. Whether you prefer them sweet or savoury, thin or fluffy, there’s a pancake recipe out there for everyone, but how could this be relevant in an interview scenario?

In an interview, hiring managers, ask questions like, “What’s the greatest challenge you’ve overcome?” These are important to learn about an applicant, however, creative interview questions will help paint a fuller picture of a potential candidate.

Funny or unexpected questions like the following can provoke a more honest, insightful conversation during your interview. “What type of pancake do you prefer and what does it say about your personality“?

These quirky queries serve an essential purpose in the interview process. When a hiring manager asks a funny interview question, they’re changing the flow of the conversation and want to get to know your personality. They can be used to lighten the mood, begin the discussion, or just put you at ease. However, underneath, the recruiter is evaluating several qualities in your response.

With weird, random, and funny interview questions, there’s often no right or wrong answer. They are designed to be ambiguous and thought-provoking. So don’t be afraid to give an honest and truthful answer. Be creative and let your personality shine in your response.

• If you prefer savoury pancakes – you are a practical and reliable person who likes to keep things simple and straightforward. You don’t need fancy toppings or extra sugar to enjoy your food, you just appreciate the taste and texture of a well-made pancake. You are loyal to your friends and family, and you always keep your promises. You are not easily swayed by trends or fads, and you have a strong sense of self.
• If you prefer sweet pancakes – you are a creative and adventurous person who likes to try new things and experiment with different flavours. You are not afraid to express your personality and your emotions through your food choices, and you love to surprise and delight others with your creations. You are optimistic and cheerful, and you always look on the bright side of life. You are open-minded and curious, and you have a zest for learning.
• If you like both savoury and sweet pancakes – you are a balanced and flexible person who can adapt to any situation and enjoy the best of both worlds. You are not limited by labels or categories, and you can appreciate the diversity and complexity of life. You are a good listener and a good communicator, and you can get along with anyone. You are wise and mature, and you have a lot of experience and insight.
